FAQ
Short answers about what LoneStarWill currently does. These describe present behavior only and are not legal advice.
What does LoneStarWill do?
LoneStarWill guides eligible Texans through creating a basic will using an official Texas will form. It fills the matching form with your answers so you can print and sign it.
Is LoneStarWill a law firm?
No. LoneStarWill is self-help software operated by LoneStarWill LLC. It is not a law firm and is not a substitute for the advice of an attorney.
Does LoneStarWill provide legal advice?
No. It does not provide legal advice, does not recommend what choices to make, and is not a substitute for the advice of an attorney.
Who is the service designed for?
People in Texas whose circumstances fit one of the supported official simple will forms after the eligibility screening.
What happens if I do not qualify?
The eligibility check explains that the official simple-will form may not fit and suggests speaking with a Texas estate-planning attorney. The application will not continue into form completion for that path.
Which Texas forms are supported?
LoneStarWill currently supports four official English forms:
- Texas married-with-children will
- Texas married-without-children will
- Texas unmarried-with-children will
- Texas unmarried-without-children will
Can I review or change answers before generation?
Yes. You can use Back to move through earlier steps, and there is a review step before signing instructions and checkout.
Is the generated PDF immediately legally effective?
No. Generating a PDF does not execute a will. Validity depends on proper offline signing and other requirements outside this application.
Do I still need witnesses or notarization?
For the supported official forms, follow the signing instructions in the packet and in the application. Those instructions include the witness steps and the notary/self-proving procedure that comes with those forms. Texas does not require every will to be notarized merely to be valid. Generating a PDF does not complete witnessing or notarization.
Can LoneStarWill mail me a printed copy?
The print plans include one mailed, single-sided printed signing package in addition to the digital PDF. Paying does not automatically send the document to print. After the required PDF or PDFs are ready in your temporary workspace, you choose when to submit that version for printing. Couples + Print sends both completed wills in one package.
When should I speak with an attorney?
Speak with a licensed Texas estate-planning attorney if you are unsure what to choose, have a blended family, want to disinherit someone, plan to leave property to someone receiving needs-based government benefits, own complex property, have a large estate or complicated tax situation, expect a family dispute, need legal advice, or if the eligibility check says the form may not fit. See also the Disclaimer page.
Does LoneStarWill guarantee that a will is suitable?
No. Suitability is not guaranteed. You remain responsible for whether the form fits your situation and for proper execution.
Is LoneStarWill affiliated with the State of Texas?
No. Official Texas form source material does not mean the State of Texas sponsors, approves, endorses, or is affiliated with LoneStarWill.
Can I currently save and return later?
Before payment, the application may keep your progress in this browser’s session storage so a reload in the same browser session can restore it. There is no permanent customer account. After payment, a temporary encrypted workspace lets you download your will and make limited edits for up to 15 days.
What does it cost?
One Will is $69, and One Will + Print is $79 with one mailed printed signing package. Couples — Two Wills is $119 for two separate guided wills, one for each person, and Couples + Print — Two Wills is $134 with one mailed package containing both completed wills. The couples products are not joint wills. Payment is completed through Stripe's secure hosted checkout after you finish the guided questions.
How do I start?
